Indiana Chamber Unveils Rankings for State’s 125 Best Places to Work

August 24, 2020 (INDIANAPOLIS) — The Indiana Chamber of Commerce honored 125 companies from across the state today at the 2020 Best Places to Work in Indiana celebration, sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College. Rankings for the organizations were revealed in four categories via a new virtual experience that enabled employers to host their own gatherings in real time to share the news with as many employees as possible.

Coming in at No. 1:

• JA Benefits, LLC, a Bedford-based employee benefits company – small category (between 15 and 74 U.S. employees)
• Performance Services, Inc., a design build construction firm in Indianapolis – medium category (between 75 and 249 U.S. employees)
• Hylant, a family-owned insurance brokerage firm with offices nationwide – large category (between 250 and 999 U.S. employees)
• Microsoft, the technology giant with a local office in Indianapolis – major category (1,000 or more U.S. employees)

JA Benefits leads its category for the second year in a row. Performance Services (2009) is a two-time top honoree, while Hylant made its way to No. 1 for the first time. Microsoft has risen to No. 1 eight of the 10 times it has participated in Indiana.

“Congratulations to these companies for providing the ‘best’ atmospheres and bringing out the ‘best’ in their employees,” shares Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar. “Their message is coming through loud and clear: It’s all about the employees. All should be proud of the perks, programs and opportunities they offer to emphasize a healthy work-life balance, community involvement and professional development.

“Recruiting and retaining talent is among Hoosier employers’ primary challenges today. The Best Places to Work honorees are addressing those obstacles while powering the success of their businesses.”

Winning companies ranged in employee count (at the time of application) from 15 to more than 2,100. Out-of-state parent companies were eligible to participate if at least 15 full-time employees are in Indiana.

Organizations that have displayed sustained excellence during the program’s history are also awarded Best Places to Work in Indiana Hall of Fame and Pinnacle designations.

Hall of Fame companies are those that have been named a Best Place to Work in Indiana at least 60% of the time in the program’s history. Two companies – Edward Jones and Katz, Sapper & Miller – have made the Best Places to Work list all 15 years of the program.

The Pinnacle designation is reserved for those that have finished first in their category three or more times in a five-year period. The four Pinnacle companies in the program’s history are: Edward Jones, Hollingsworth & Zivitz, P.C., Microsoft and Sikich.

All companies that participated in the 2020 Best Places to Work program receive an in-depth evaluation identifying strengths and weaknesses according to their employees. In turn, this report can be used in developing or enhancing employee retention and recruitment programs.
