Overview
 
The Cloud Engineer role is responsible for implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Microsoft Azure based solutions for customer environments. This role combines hands-on project delivery with escalation-level operational support, serving as a key technical resource for Azure environments.  
  

Responsibilities
 
  • Deploy, manage, and support Azure resources for client projects.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex Azure infrastructure issues, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). 
  • Configure and troubleshoot Azure networking components.
  • Ensure Azure environments follow best practices for security, performance, and reliability.
  • Participate in peer review of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules to ensure security, compliance, and operational consistency.
  • Execute assigned Azure project tasks from planning through implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful project delivery and escalation resolution.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders regarding project status, technical issues, and solutions.
  • Document all project implementation steps, configurations, and escalation resolutions.
  • Participate in project planning, post‑implementation reviews, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide structured guidance and support to Technical Operations Center (TOC) engineers during escalations to improve troubleshooting skills and cloud knowledge.
  • Achieve or maintain relevant Microsoft Azure or other solution certifications as assigned.
  • Build proficiency in Azure resource deployments using traditional, tool-based, and IaC methods.
  • Develop stronger automation skills using PowerShell and Azure CLI. 
 
Qualifications & Experience

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. 
      • An equivalent combination of education, industry certifications, and years of relevant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
    • Cloud certifications such as AZ-104 preferred 
  • 3+ years of experience in: 
    • IT Administration, Systems Engineering, or Cloud Operations roles. 
  • Infrastructure experience:
    • Hand-on experience administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP. 
    • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (firewalls, switching, routing).
    • Understanding of backup and disaster recovery concepts, including the development of backup strategies, retention policies, recovery testing, and experience with Datto or similar Backup platforms.
  • Azure Platform & Cloud Operations:
    • Solid understanding of Azure fundamentals and resource deployment.
    • Hands-on experience with core Azure services: compute, storage, networking, and identity.
    • Proficient in managing subscriptions, resource groups, and RBAC.
    • Strong Azure networking skills, including virtual networks, subnets, NSGs, routing, VPN/ExpressRoute, and related troubleshooting.
    • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or other Remote Desktop Services.
  • Automation & Tooling:
    • Ability to deploy, optimize, and support cloud environments, including session host and scale management, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
    • Practical knowledge of Azure automation and tooling using PowerShell and Azure CLI.
    • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and declarative infrastructure concepts.
    • Proficiency with documentation tools, diagramming tools, and ticketing/service management systems.

Compensation

The typical base salary for this role is $100,000-$115,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skillset, experience and training, licensures and/or certifications, and other organizational needs.  
 
Impact may offer applicable incentive compensation plans depending on role and/or department.
